Goosenecks?
 

These are what was used in NT Australia in the early '90s. Presumably they are goosenecks? The lout on the left is my brother and has swapped the Cessna's for B777's! :}

Late '50's, early 60's we used a similar type in South Aust as in your photo. Laid them out late afternoon with kero powered tractor and attached trailer, and then lit 30 minutes or so prior to scheduled arrival. Gooseneck refers to the spout type arrangement holding the wick, as in India Four Two photo.

A few years ago a tv documentary on aircraft camouflage mentioned these. ASW aircraft were not getting close to German submarines, as they showed a dark silhouette against a bright sky. The plan concocted was to have a series of lights on the wing leading edge, nose and tail fin. These effectively cancelled out the dark silhouette.

I think they showed a picture of a USN Avenger with this kit fitted. That said, I don't think they ever became common, as ASW centimetric radar came in allow night attacks on U boats.

The programe did suggest that a more modern version might have been fitted to low flying strike aircraft, but I don't think anything ever came of it.
