ZK-XNZ, formerly NZ1828 is snug as a bug in her hangar at Ashburton. She had an engine run a couple of weeks ago.

Walking home this evening as it was getting pretty dark (what a sunset!), heard what sounded very much like a pair of Gipsy Queens - had to have been a Dove! Heading west from the Biggin Hill direction, probably overflew Kenley. All I could see was the anti collision beacon winking seductively...

Wow, that is very impressive aircraft recognition, it being pitch bloody dark at the time, it was indeed a Dove, G-OPLC.

Sorry Dropshort, just seen your reply - my eyes are knackered, brain's on the wain. hair receding fast, but the lug 'oles can still pick out interesting aero engines at several miles! Were you aboard 'PLC?

G-OPLC has been flying - recently over Berkshire. Great sight.

Hi People,
I would like to announce that we have some exciting news for the DH.104 Dove Preservation Group.
We have a new logo and I would like to thank our good friend Johnny Fernandez for donating a considerable amount of time designing It, as I think you will agree it is a striking looking logo.

The new logo represents the beginning of the next chapter for the DPG.

We are now officially registered as a not for profit organisation and have acquired two airframes for static restoration:

C/N: 04097, Manufactured in 1947 the aircraft was registered YI-ABK, TJ-ACA, D-100, G-ATGI, VQ-ZJC & VH-ABM.

C/N: 04486, Manufactured in 1957 the aircraft was registered as PH-ION, G-ASMX & VH-DHN.

Stay tuned for more restoration updates.
Regards,
Daniel Sherburn

At Malaga Airport on Wednesday - saw what looked like the hulk of a Dove used a fire practice wreck. Anyone know anything about it?

Proplinerman 5th Jun 2015 21:57

Here's a photo of G-APSK at Biggin in 1974 (and plenty more photos of Doves in my Flickr photostream): https://www.flickr.com/photos/489750...-9vSL3t-8jyzBJ

VH-WST at Bankstown in June 1973 Photo by Dave Eyre

This one was operated by Skyway Airlines on a commuter run out of Sydney to Gunnedah Quirindi and Wee Waa
The owner of the company and the Dove was Alan Baker from Wee Waa. He was big in cotton.
WST suffered a midair over Bankstown in March 1974. The other aircraft was a PA30 Twin Comanche. Fatal to all -
one in the Dove and three in the PA30.

Alan employed me to fly WST for three months in the latter half of 1973. It was a single pilot operation.
Having learned on Chippies, it became apparent that the Dove had handling characteristics in some ways as sweet as the Chippie.

See Geoff Goodall's website for a detailed history of all Doves in service in Australia.

Hi stingrayau, no sure what you are refering to.
If Dove VH-CJY,no its not at jandakot any more, was last reported at northam in the early 2000's but no longer there either, Its the only Dove/Devon in Australia that I do not know its location.
Prototype Heron is now at Australian National Aviation Museum

Hi Daniel
I'm sure you know already, but we have a Mk6 and a Mk8 (neither airworthy regrettably) here at the de Havilland Aircraft Museum in UK.

Hi Alan,

Thank you for sharing the link, I was aware and I follow your museum on facebook. I am quite familiar with AREA's sister ship EX ASMG from when she was in Australia, flew in her many times sadly now grounded in New Zealand.

I would love some detailed photo's of the MK6 and the nose modifcations which I assume held photographic or filming equipment when it was used in germany.
D-IFSA which was flying until recently appears to have the same mods though it has been painted over with the civil paint scheme.

I have been in contact with the owner, he is hoping to have her flying again soon.

I recently posted this on the RAF Chipmunk thread, in a piece of thread drift, but it definitely belongs here:

Hi, India Four Two
I have been trying to find more details on the Float Dove, the Photo in your post appears to be the only one of it on floats.

Later converted back

India Four Two 17th Jun 2015 05:58

Dan,

This is where I found the photo:

THE AVIATION ANORAK: The De Havilland DH.104 Dove on Floats!

DH.104 Dove 1 CF-DJH c/n 04015
The only Dove ever fitted with floats was a one off conversion
for the Hudson Bay Company of Canada.
It was then operated by S.J. Phillips as N91827
The aircraft was written off in Alaska 196 [sic]

ZK-DHW ex VH-JGZ/DHQ project

Hi All,
It's with great excitement that we have launched a crowd funding page on kick starter with the aim of raising funds to purchase Dove 8 C/N: 04533 ZK-DHW.
DHW is currently in storage but is complete including engines and avionics, we believe this will be an excellent candidate for an airworthy restoration.
more details can be found at the link below.
