Where is this?!
From another forum.......
http://i39.tinypic.com/33o1x91.png Trying to identify the airport shown here. Pic taken in 1976 during a flight from Frankfurt to Detroit. OP doesn't know at what stage in the flight it was taken, I believe the size / irregular shape of the fields is typical of the UK. Anybody know where it might be please? Cheers AAO |
Brawdy from the north, which means the aircraft was travelling east not west!

RAF Brawdy, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Not sure when the Navy moved out; was it RAF in 76?

Yes. Chiarain. |
Originally opened as an RAF Station, the Navy took it over in 1946, the airfield becoming HMS Goldcrest in 1952.
The Navy left in 1971 and the RAF moved back in 1974 and relinquished it in 1992. Since 1995 it has been occupied by 14 Signals Regt as Cawdor Barracks. |
But Cawdor (as in the Scottish Play) is in Northern Scotland.......................
|
Definitely Brawdy.
|
The Matelots called it HMS Goldcrest but that's just the unit occupying it. Like the RAF Stations used by the cousins it remained RAF Brawdy as the signboard said when we detached there with our Vulcans in the sixties. (The sailors never seemed happy to see us, for some reason)
