Hurricane IIc serial numbers

I am trying to find the serial number of the Hurricane IIc aircraft that crashed near Tetney, Lincolnshire, England on 14 August 1942. The pilot Lloyd Henry Roper McCarthy, a New Zealander, was killed.
From two sources I have either X3261 or Z3261 as recorded on the RAF accident report.

FIGHTER COMMAND Interception practice 253 Squadron, RAF (Hibaldstow, Lincolnshire - 12 Group)
Hurricane IIC Z3261 - at 1530 made a steep climbing turn at 3000 feet and entered a spin. Recovery was made at 1000 feet, but a spin in the opposite direction immediately followed and Z3261 crashed into the ground 5 miles SE of Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

Is there a source which might list the Hurricane aircraft on strength at No 253 squadron at RAF Hibaldstow in August 1942 or can anyone state the fate of these two Hurricane serial numbers?

It was Z3261. X3261 was never allocated to any aircraft.
