I could not find a reference to this in the forum, if already here, Then let me know and I'll delete this.
No a/c number but a photo shows it was called: "Spirit of Russia" Lancaster Bomber remains found 68 years after D-Day crash - Yahoo! News UK |

Those French sure are clever. Where do you hide something the size of a Lancaster for 58 years? Do tell.

A fairly long way underground which is where it came to rest after reaching almost terminal velocity in its plunge earthwards with 7 young men on board - that's where they hid it smartarse. :ugh:

Anybody know whereabouts in Normandy the Lanc was found?

Between Carentan and Cherbourg I believe |
Hello,
It sems to be near CARENTAN (GooleMaps search: '50500 Carentan France') A french link is available here ( 10 Oct, 19:39 post) Hope this help. |

No, it doesn't make sense. There must be (or have been) human remains in that aircraft. Perhaps not out on the wing where the latest excavation seems to have taken place, but in earlier digs around the cockpit area and rear turret. The sad story has been discussed at length at:
