Those French sure are clever. Where do you hide something the size of a Lancaster for 58 years? Do tell.

A fairly long way underground which is where it came to rest after reaching almost terminal velocity in its plunge earthwards with 7 young men on board - that's where they hid it smartarse. :ugh:

Is this the same Lancaster as has been discussed extensively at Lancaster recovery in Normandy - Key Publishing Ltd Aviation Forums - particularly by reference to the curious absence of human remains, despite three excavations of the site!

l.garey 25th Oct 2012 06:49

Yes, it's that one. The commune is in fact Brucheville.

fauteuil volant 25th Oct 2012 11:31

This just doesn't make sense to me. Those who excavated this crash site seem to be able to find a gold ring but no trace of the finger on which, presumably, it was!

l.garey 25th Oct 2012 12:30

No, it doesn't make sense. There must be (or have been) human remains in that aircraft. Perhaps not out on the wing where the latest excavation seems to have taken place, but in earlier digs around the cockpit area and rear turret. The sad story has been discussed at length at:
