Australian Aviation Hall of Fame
Hall of Fame names inaugural class | Australian Aviation Magazine
The Australian Aviation Hall of Fame will induct an inaugural class of nine aviators on September 15. The inductees include box kite pioneer Lawrence Hargrave, Bert Hinkler, Lores Bonney, Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, Sir Ross and Sir Keith Macpherson Smith, Reginald and John Duigan and Sir Norman Brearley . |
I would have thought Sir Gordon (`Bill`) Taylor GC would have been worthy of being included. Maybe he will be in the next list
His expeditionary flights across the Pacific are well documented.. Then there was his extrordinary bravery on 15 May 1935 when during a Southern Cross flight across the Tasman the exhaust manifold of the centre engine broke and severely damaged the right engine propeller. Taylor climbed out on the strut and transferred oil to the remaining engine on six occasions. For this feat he was awarded the George Cross. |
Wasn't the George Cross first introduced some time in WW2?
