The planes in Indiana Jones.......
Well, I was watching it today (on RTE) with my Dad, and when the part came when Indie was escaping and fighting around a huge German flying wing, here's my conversation with Dad:
Dad:"jeez that's a big plane!" Me:"hm" Dad:"What kind of plane is that, anyway?" Me:"A fake one" Dad:"oh" Me:"Far as I know, Germans never had a flying wing." But now it's bugging me. Did the Germans ever have a plane remotely like that? Circa 1936, Twin pusher props, tricycle undercarriage, Rear gunner position acessible from cockpit, Cannon in wings, wingspan what, 60ft?. Probably total bollocks, but I wonder what plane'd come close if they HAD to use a real one. Oh, and that Biplane with floats at the start, a Curtiss right? I'm off now to put an ad for this place on the News & rumours section..... |
The Germans were working on flying wings (nurflugel) between the wars. The inspiration for the IJ 'plane' might have come from one of the Horten models. The Horten 5 was a twin-prop pusher but not that big I think. The Horten 9 was a twin-jet and made it to limited production status in 1945 as the Gotha 229.

Thx, but the float plane wasn't the grumman, this one had twin floats.
