1946 aerial photos of Samlesbury airfield-Halifaxes in one shot
Here are links to two photos that have come into my possession recently and which I have posted on the net. Thought these might be of interest to some of you:

I believe that English Electric built over 2,000 Halifaxes at Samlesbury. Quite an achievement.

I think this photo is one of many taken by the RAF in the aerial photo survey conducted after WW2. 3G/TUD/UK188 is the sortie code.

In 1945/6 my father used to pick up brand new Halifaxs and fly them to Edzell in Scotland to be broken up.

Hipper,
That site is great and not just for our interests. Any chance of a pointer to where the aerial photos can be found? SGC |
I've no idea! All I can suggest is you ask English Heritage, quoting dates, geographic location, and sortie code if you have it.
When I was really interested in aerial photos, particularly of WW2 German warships (in Norway, France, Poland etc.) I found them at Keele University (now I think those ones are in Scotland), and JARIC, RAF Brampton. JARIC had post war ones, such as over Kiel and Tromso (where Tirpitz was). |
