Colonel Sir David Stirling

After coming across the aforementioned's wikipedia entry I was surprised to find that, according to the site, he had been awarded the DFC.

After a (cursory) google search I can't seem to find the citation for the award or any other explanation - does anyone have any ideas as to its origin?

Don't know if it helps, but ISTR that the "rules" for DFCs and AFCs allow their award for parachuting related incidents/ endeavour.

Sorry I can't be more specific as I'm away from access to reference books at present.

I have looked and cannot find any detail on his DFC..

DSO yes, but not DFC. Perhaps a typo??

Interesting - thanks both.

If it is a typo it seems to have made its way into many of the search engine results I've seen. The power of wikipedia I suppose.

We all know that Wikipedia is always correct ALWAYS

How many UK GCSE A*s have been achieved by a simple cut and paste from Wikipedia?
