D W "Tommy" Lucke

Hi, Forumites
Does anybody have information on the above pilot who, amongst many other things, flew for Vickers during WW2 and, in particular his Date of Birth, and Date of Death. I assume he is now deceased as he was born circa 1910...
Many thanks
MACR

A PPRuNe member, the_tartanterror, runs a website about Test Pilots at http://www.thetartanterror.********.com/ . For some reason PPRuNe won't accept the word b.l.o.g.s.p.o.t. in the website address above!

He recently posted this about Tommy Lucke and together with his photo it is the fourth entry down on the November 2011 entries on the web address above:

Douglas Webster 'Tommy' Lucke was born in Mexico. He had a colourful career from the time when, at the age of 20, he worked his passage from Texas to take an R.A.F. short-service commission.

On completing it he joined Ethyl Export for flying duties which took him to many parts of the world. In 1937 he joined Bristols as an instructor, then re-entered the R.A.F. and was engaged on flying which included work in connection with countering the magnetic mine and the development of the Mohne Dam weapon and of airborne lifeboats. From 1946 to 1948 he was with B.O.A.C. as chief test pilot at Croydon. He was appointed C.F.I, to the Royal Egyptian Air Force and served for a year before giving up active flying for health reasons. In 1954 he joined the Sales Department of Export Packing Service, Ltd., a large proportion of whose work consists of the preparation of aircraft and components for transportation.

CharlieOneSix:
Thanks for that. From his log books we have at Brooklands, he flew many types of aircraft, including Fairey 111's, and Virginia's whilst in the RAF during the early 30's, and then, after some long distance flying, became an Instructor with the Bristol & Wessex Flying School, before rejoining the RAF in the late 30's. He subsequently flew at the A&AEE, and at Vickers during the War...

I found during a search on the Ancestory Net a photograph of Douglas Webster Lucke's Royal Aero Club Card and his photograph. The card is dated 20 March 1935.
The card states his date of birth was 23 June 1909 and place of birth Monterray Mexico as reported at post by CharlieOneSix. In the index of Births/Marriages/Deaths there is a record of the death of a Douglas Webster Lucke in Folkstone in 1972 it gives the date of birth as being 23 June 1908 exactly a years difference, possibly a recording error. If you PM me I could forward you a copy of the above photographs.

Not sure if you are still researching Tommy Lucke, but he was my best friends grand father, if there was anything you'd like to know I'm sure his mum (Tommy's daughter)
would be happy to discuss.
