In a point you cannot measure distance.
I have checked some factory airfields I have found on the web.
But no succes.

I take it that there is an airfield around those garden tables?

The distance/time measurement is precise with regard to time but very woolly on distance - but it's quite well known to even the average man-in-the -street

The airport is quite substantial - but has a wide range of users - its not just a factory airport and in fact , as I said, I'm not sure they currently produce whole air-frames any more

Three main runways - up to 10,000ft long (not all three)

1978 that’s only 42 years.
You said over 50 years
They are not so much backwards over there.

Happy New Year everyone.

Where’s this? From a time when helicopters were thought to be the buses of the future.

Asturias56 31st Dec 2019 11:40

That looks horribly like the British countryside - if so perhaps it's a civvie Westland WS51 Dragonfly

I found this clip from the Dark Ages................

India Four Two 31st Dec 2019 14:25

Yes, we’re in Britain and it’s a Dragonfly.

I note they didn’t mention any of the drawbacks of helicopter travel in the documentary!

but search on UK eventually brought up Birmingham https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hay_Mills_Rotor_Station which was apparenly in use 1951-54 -ish.................

Lets wait until 2020 for the next challenge!!!

Well done, Sherlock!

I love the name Rotor Station. Here's a bigger picture and the equivalent GE view. The bridge carries Yardley Green Road over the River Cole:

I'm not sure if Asturias has declared Open House.

Asturias56 1st Jan 2020 08:35

Lets start 2020 with a relatively new airport......................

Just look at all those NIMBYs!
The name could be confusing though; in the same period, the name 'ROTOR Station' referred to a chain of supposedly secret RAF air defence radar stations.
