Looking at the Vampire in the background and the 'O' code on the Provost, how about Ouston?

Kieron Kirk 12th Jan 2012 12:57

Ternhill ?

Ciarain.

Cows getting bigger 12th Jan 2012 13:04

Hullavington?

olympus 12th Jan 2012 13:15

No, sorry. None of those are correct.

Kieron Kirk 12th Jan 2012 13:48

Acklington ?

Ciarain.

JW411 12th Jan 2012 14:46

Well, I flew WW445/O-B several times at 6 FTS Ternhill in 1961 but I don't think it is there. The presence of the balloon winch etc makes me wonder if it is Abingdon. OH if I am correct.

olympus 12th Jan 2012 15:51

Nobody is really very close so far.

A clue; another picture taken the same day. If no success with this I have a third pic which should give it away...

A real stab in the dark- Biggin Hill.

Ciarain.

chevvron 12th Jan 2012 16:23

Hm if that apparatus next to the Vulcan is something to do with RAFP or dog training, could it be Debden?

olympus 12th Jan 2012 16:24

KK has it!

This is the other pic I was going to post; I think anyone familiar with Biggin would recognise it from this...

You have control.

Kieron Kirk 12th Jan 2012 16:30

Olympus,

Your third photo is obviously Biggin Hill.

Anyone, open house .

Ciarain.

Well if no-one else wants a go, try this one:

Here are some clues:

This is about the only thing left of this land based strip apart from some aircraft wreckage - more of this in a later clue.

Prior to (and after) it's air links, this was a very important railway town (town might be a misnomer) - although strangely enough it has never seen a rail, coach, wagon or engine.

The next clue will be a photo of something that can be seen from GE.

nvubu 13th Jan 2012 18:22

whoops... pressed submit twice.

olympus 13th Jan 2012 19:49

Africa...?

nvubu 13th Jan 2012 19:51

Yes ........

Mr_Grubby 13th Jan 2012 20:47

Vio, Kenya ?

C.

nvubu 13th Jan 2012 21:00

Not sure if you mean vio. Should that be Voi?

nvubu 13th Jan 2012 22:28

It isn't Voi - the railway there runs alongside the airstrip, whereas the railway this town served was 120+ miles away as the crow flies - although it hasn't been there for almost 50 years.

I'll post the 2nd picture clue in the morning,

nvubu 14th Jan 2012 06:59

As promised - here is something visible in GE

To give a little persepective to the above - the boat is visible in the shot below.
