American take over of Twa question/s
American purchased Twa not long before 9/11.
The top 800 on the Twa on the pilot seniority list were intergrated with Americans according to their start date. The rest were stapled to the bottom. After 9/11 and the furloughs which followed, apart from the top 800,most of the Twa pilots would have been looking for another job. Have I got this correct? |
Don't recall the exact numbers above and below the "staple point", but you are substantially correct in your conclusion.
5030N (one of those stapled) |
An American contact of mine told me that rather than having "taken over" TWA, American Airlines had "trashed" them.

To be clear, the stapling wasn't quite at "the bottom" of the list as there were a few hundred AA pilots below the TWA pilots when the merger actually occured (who are still furloughed 9+ years later).
However, this is an extremely controversial topic which has been argued vociferously, vehemently, and very nastily in a dozen other forums. Lets let it settle a bit further into the dust before we discuss it as 'history' because it certainly isn't 'nostalgic'. |
