Fings wot I 'av drew

Hi all,

Its been a while since I ws last on here but I have been a bit busy doing aircraft related things:

The task set was to reproduce a 3-view of a multi-engined civil transport aircraft, referring mainly to a copy of JAWA, a ruler and whatever extra dimensions we could glean from the interweb. Its taken damn long enough but I'm really pleased with it!
Enjoy!

I can't fault your choice of subject matter.

Absolutely !
Beautiful subject :ok:

What's the CAD software out of interest? :)

PPRuNeUser0139 23rd Feb 2011 08:30

Looks like Autodesk Inventor..

Very fine work, well done!

Just a small query - on my screen, the extreme right hand vertical height on the dimensioned side view looks like 35272.2 mm. (I tried increased zoom, but still no clearer.) Obviously can't be as much as that, and it's out of keeping with the other heights in the same tail region. So what is the correct figure? I've stood underneath the tail of the VC10 at Brooklands aero museum, and I know it's pretty high and impressive, but not over 115 feet high!

Hi guys

Thanks very much for the appreciative comments! :)
I just hope my particularly picky Design Principles lecturers like it as much! (Drs. Ian R Farrow and Askin Isikveren, if any fellow engineers on here might have heard of them..)

DH106, the software is Autodesk Inventor Professional 2010. Its pretty good but soon starts slowing up on you when you put in as many points and dimensions as I had to do on those drawings. Oh, and the splining feature has a mind of its own as far as modellling complex curves goes... :ugh:

603DX, that does indeed look very much like a 35! I actually had to fire up Inventor and check for myself, it turns out that its just a very pixellated 11272.2!

Regards,

Matt

VC10 tail height to the top of the bullet, 39' 6" .

Jhieminga 28th Feb 2011 16:25

It looks very nice, although you did cheat a bit on some of the curves on the fin and rudder ;)

Seriously, that's a lot better than I ever managed to get out of a CAD package (cannot remember now what we used...).

Excellent stuff and a 1st class subject with the VC10 :ok:

Tonks
