Sir Keith Park
Just got back from the unveiling of Sir Keith's statue in Trafalgar Square. A few decades late, but his outstanding contribution to European and indeed World history has finally been recognised.

About time too.
Saw a photograph of the statue in the Torygraph this morning. Looks excellent. |
And why can't it occupy the fourth plinth permanently? Or don't we want to be reminded of (shhsh) brave men and daring deeds?
|
Echo all the above. He and Dowding were in my opinion, the true heroes. The way they were subsequently treated by the Air Ministry is a national disgrace and the scheming that went on behind the scenes quite disgraceful.
|
Westminster Council decided that the statue could stay for 6 months only. For that reason that particular statue is made of fibre glass.
The bronze one will have a permanent position in Waterloo Place off The Mall. The ceremony will be on 15th September 2010 - the 70th anniversary of the BoB. |
