Dalripple 1938 experimental plane with Ford 10 engine
Hi
Does anyone know details about a small plane made by a friend of the Hon Daripple in 1938? My father writes... I have just seen a lovely little plane which is being tested just up Grantham hill. (Poss near Marlborough). it is a private experiment by the Hon Daripple and a friend who designed it. It is a small plane, very safe, with a Ford 10 engine which develops only 27hp and max speed 120mph range 500 miles. It goes 60 miles to the gallon and costs £300. Cheers Motherbird. |
The aircraft in question is the Chilton DW/1, built at Chilton Foliat. There is a website with considerable information, but as I cannot remember the URL i recommend Google!

Your aircraft is Chilton DW1 G-AESZ, first registered to Hon A Dalrympole of Hungerford on 13/4/37. It still flies today...see below http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2484/...10d4286ef4.jpg Cheers |

Fantastic, well done chaps, another AH & N success:D
I do like the idea of the extra cash for dual ignition... |
Thanks everyone great work. :D
Any idea when it is on display next? I'd love to get some photos. Motherbird |
Chilton Pic from 1949
Henry do you have any more pictures of G-AFGI?
That is my Dad J. S. Sproule behind the cowling, this extract from his logbook dates your picture as November 1949 on any of the dates shown. The canopy was adapted from an Olympia glider and fitted back to front. The present day Chilton guru is Roy Nerou and the earlier link to his super website proves the point. Kind regards W. p.s. ref the D.W.1 it is spelt Dalrymple & Ward http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...ilton_Log2.jpg |
Wunper: That is the only one I have, the negative has not survived.
If you would like that small print PM me your postal address. |
