Japanese Subs in Western Approaches??
On one of my frequent visits to Dunkeswell yesterday I visited the Dunkeswell Memorial Museum. In one of the displays they have the copy of part of the log book of a Liberator pilot who was engaged in anti submarine patrols over the Bay of Biscay.
In one entry he had described the mission as "Hunting Jap Sub". This was in the middle of other missions which just said things like "Training" or "Hunting Subs". All missions were based from Dunkeswell. No-one at the Museum could explain it so I wondered if this was a mistake or was there some other explanation. |
See the following. Several Japanese subs attempted the transit to link up with Axis forces.
