So if you meet Dr Who, remember to take a new One Hundred Trillion Zimbabwe Dollar banknote with you......

...and buy the whole ZAF.

chongololo 15th Mar 2009 18:04

I remember those Skymasters flying overhead the convoy from Salisbury to Beitbridge.
At least I think it was them, it's a long time ago now and I was only a child at the time.
Perhaps someone here knows?

My County's road traffic spotter plane is a Cessna 337. I haven't looked closely to see whether it's the version in the above photo.

MrBernoulli 23rd Mar 2009 17:42

The Cessna 337 here was known as the 'Lynx' in the air force. And I used to fly those DC-3s .......... :(

No problem about adding photos...the more the merrier.

Here are some shots taken in 1982 at New Sarum. The occasion was the arrival of the first Hawk, which we were not allowed to photograph. After the Hawk display, the Air force put on a small display outside the Officer's mess.

Here's a photo of an Alouette I took somewhere in Rhodesia (as it was at the time). For a bit of fun, can anyone identify where?

Looks like Mt Susitna (?) in Alaska- the mountain overlooking Anchorage that looks like a lady reclining with her hair spread out on the ground!

And at the same location 28-years earlier, 13th June 1953.

219 Sqn Meteor NF Mk 11 from Kabrit in the Canal Zone and in the background 12 Venoms of 266 Sqn from Wunsdorf (Germany).

Sadly the next day two Harvards from 5 FTS at RAF Thornhill collided in mid-air. Three crew were killed, but no one on the ground was injured.

I flew in the formation practice at RAF Thornhill (5 FTS) and took these photos of the two aircraft (FX 373 & FX 431) that collided and crashed at Salisbury three days later on 14th June 1953.

I flew the Lynx (Skymaster) and Genet (Siamachetti) on convoy cover numerous times PB..crazy days huh!

dixi188 9th Dec 2016 19:43

Those Hunters were definitely not supplied from Oman in about 1978 due to the arms embago. ;)

DaveReidUK 9th Dec 2016 21:48

Presumably those FGA.9s are either the ex-RAF examples and/or the ones they got from Kenya.

cooperplace 9th Dec 2016 23:59

amazing photos; poor Zimbabwe, once a rich country. Mugabe will be 93 soon. What will happen when he dies?
