Vickers Viscount 802 G-AOHI
 

Hi All,

I am looking for information on a Vickers Viscount that crashed back in the 70's. The Registration was G-AOHI, also looking for information or a photograph of the pilot my grand father Capt Walter Durward.

Any Help would be much appriciated

There's still aircraft remains on Ben More - a few years ago I could identify Dart combustion chambers and what I thought were spar web caps complete with red paint.

My father-in-law is ex-BEA and was involved at the time in assisting with the recovery of the aircraft. He does remember small pieces of the aircraft remaining on the hillside and being gathered together in a pile and left. Presumably that's what I saw.

Ben More can be a tough, unrelenting climb at the best of times but these small pieces I'm sure will still be there.

Will ask my F-I-L for more info, but as an ex-engineer I doubt he'll have pictures of aircrew.

I spent two days on Ben More retrieving the remains of HI - I was astounded at the complete destruction of the aircraft.We collected what was left in garbage bags loaded into cargo nets then helicoptered by a military Puma down to the road. only about 3 pieces were large enough to require a seperate lift.I was a colleague of the two engineers on board and have never forgotten the incident.It brought home to me the high cost of errors in our business - I am an LAE and it made a deep impression on me as it was the first fatal accident I was involved with.

Many Thanks to all who have posted so far, it has helped alot in finding more information on my Grandfather. I have been able to find out information on the AAIB website and the other posts on the forum. I have also managed to find a photograph of the plane he was flying at the time.

I am looking for anyone who may have a photograph of my grandfather... This would be great as i do not have one....

Anyone who knows if its possilbe to get a copy of his ATPL license for my personal records and firther information that would be great?

Anyone with info about the crash other than what was stated on the AAIB report that would be great? e.g there reason for the test flight (faults or failures being tested).
