Avro Lancaster Drawings - ID Help!!

I have four drawings at home of an RAF Avro Lancaster carying the markings DL-F or OL-F, drawn by an artist whom I believe to be John 'Lamdell' or 'Laundell', however the signature is dificult to decipher.

The story behind these drawings: the artist was a crew member on board this aircraft during WW2, and produced these sketches during his down time. The drawings were later gifted to my mother. They are originals, clearly, done in charcoal, pastels and pencil, and really are very good, leading me to believe the chap may well have had a career in art.

I've conducted a search of the web in order to trace the Sqn to which the aircraft belonged, and the artist, but without joy. Anyone able to shed any light?!

Thanks!

You're in luck. From MReyn's listing DL was never issued - so it has to be OL, 83 Sqdn.

Ta...if it is 83 Sqn, that would fit in nicely with timelines etc from my ma...just read up on the Sqn history, received Lancs in early/mid '42...

In one of the pics there's a lovely depiction of the tail gunner lighting up the engine of a FW190 ...

How about scanning them and posting? (PS. OL was 83 Sqdn.)

Lost Bombers - World War II Lost Bombers

Well, seems the aircraft which might be depicted in the pictures was lost off the coast of Brest in '44... :ooh:

Will post more info as/when I learn more myself!

I see OL was 83 Sqn, but still can't be certain if the markings are a D or an O - all will become clear when I post a pic - too big to scan, they're A5...!

My thoughts are, maybe it was intentionally sketched with a 'D', the code not issued, for OPSEC purposes?? It's a possibility. There is no Serial No in any of the pics, unfortunately.
