Ridge Runner 28th Jul 2010 17:30

Oh dear!! Help needed...... ES YL SX

LM, re-read my correction. I was referring to the countries where they were built - only two. The statement about the designer stands

Skytrain, therefore not your Bucker and not Sweden

RR

skytrain10 28th Jul 2010 17:31

I keep coming back to Sweden....just looked at ASJA...the J6A Jakfalken meets the bill in terms of description, 3 built, 2 in Sweden and the other in Finland, but thats only a single seater and doesn't have the wheel spats.

Need to find a decent site covering Swedish aircraft!

Lightning Mate 28th Jul 2010 17:42

Forget it!

Lightning Mate 28th Jul 2010 17:52

Well, I had found Greece before - SL.

To which we add Estonia and Latvia.

A very unlikely combination methinks.

Lightning Mate 28th Jul 2010 17:58

SincoTC 28th Jul 2010 17:58

Evening all,

The Chaff has been buggering up the radar all right !!

I think it's the AEKKEA-RAAB Schwalbe II (Temp Reg SX-AAL)

skytrain10 28th Jul 2010 17:58

Well looking at the historic Greek and Estonian registers I come up with a common name....the German Raab Katzenstein Schwalbe II....so would this be the Greek built Aekkea Raab Schwalbe II?

skytrain10 28th Jul 2010 18:01

Bugger....if I had only just typed the name as opposed to my reasons for getting there I might have just beaten you to it Sinco!!

SincoTC 28th Jul 2010 18:03

Been there, done that, annoying innit!! Sorry Ken :)

I used to try and find confirmation first, then I'd find someone (often you) had posted just before me. Now I shoot first and check later!

If RR confirms, then Open House please, I have to get away earlier than I did last night as I've got chores to do!

Lightning Mate 28th Jul 2010 18:15

TC old chap.

You and I are going to have an interesting conversation in November.....

Bugger....if I had only just typed the name as opposed to my reasons for getting there I might have just beaten you to it
Me been there too.......

Squeeze the missile launch trigger and avoid the fireball!

Someone is obviously executing some keep fit stuff and running up and down ridges.....

He'll be back out of breath soon.

Lightning Mate 28th Jul 2010 18:33

....OK RR, open the throttle on this.............

....and if you manage to land it, suggest clean underpants. :E:E

Yes, I think I'll have to change my policy! Mind you the stupid thing was the Aekkea Schwalbe II's are listed as Raab Katzenstein Schwalbe II's on both the Greek and Estonian registers, so I completely ignored them initially. It was only after eliminating everything else (including what was on the Latvian register) that I came back to the Raab...then did a search...and 30 seconds later I had worked out what it was!

Lightning Mate 28th Jul 2010 18:43

Thee who clearly work behind a bar as a steward......:E

Lightning Mate 28th Jul 2010 18:56

brakes off brakes off.......

Hold it!!!

Lightning Mate 28th Jul 2010 19:01

"Bawdsey this is Neatishead - we have a combat ready Lightning on CAP 3....."

Ridge Runner 28th Jul 2010 19:11

Yes, the AKKEA-Raab Schwalbe II. The history of AEKKEA , an aircraft maker based in Greece is connected with the fascinating history of a talented German aircraft designer, Antonius Raab (or Antonio Raab, as he was often called after his involvement in Spain). In Germany Raab was the co-founder of Raab-Katzenstein, an aircraft maker. A devoted anti-Nazi, Raab was forced out of his homeland, and after attempts to establish his company in Estonia and Latvia, ended up in 1935 in Greece where he had the support of a high-ranking Air Force Officer. With this support, he and his Greek partners founded a company called AEKKEA (standing for "Anonymos Etaireia Kataskevis Kai Ekmetallefseos Aeroplanon", or, in French - the "international" language employed in Greece at the time - "Societe Anonyme Pour la Fabrication et l'Exploitation des Avions Raab") with headquarters in Piraeus, moving it in 1937 to nearby Phaleron. Constructions were undertaken by Pyrkal defence industry, until AEKKEA's own factory in Moschato started operation in 1937.

The company employed Greek staff (including management and engineers like Greece's best known aircraft engineer, G. Pangakis), but a number of German technicians had also followed Raab in Greece. Its first reported types were (or were related to) models from Raab’s previous company, including the Pelikan trainer and touring plane, the R-26V trainer and light fighter, the R-27 single-seat fighter, the Schwalbe (I/II) and the Tigerschwalbe IV multi-role military aircraft.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...A_Schwalbe.jpg

The first company "construction" was actually an old Raab-Katzenstein Schwalbe Kl 1c upgraded to Schwalbe II . At least one complete Schwalbe II was also constructed. Except for the Schwalbe , and, possibly, a Pelikan , no production is verified for any other of the particular types; the company nonetheless possessed the designs and production rights.

Did you like that???

TC has declared OH!!!

Ridge Runner 28th Jul 2010 19:14
