Wooden airplane Models
 

Does anybody know of a reliable manufacturer of hand made wooden plane models. I understand many come from the Phillipines but how to contact them?

I am sure that the recipients of your generosity of giving so many links to highly commercial products will be most grateful, but its advertising and NOT allowed.

Isn't advertising unsolicited ?
Answering a request for information isn't really advertising.

If I asked "Whats the best place to fly near Salisbury?"
and someone replied with the name of an airfield that can hardly be regarded as advertising.

Anyway back to topic.

From the examples of their work I have seen on e-bay I wouldn't bother any Philippine models, they look nothing like the real thing

I believe it is the Vietnamese "natural wood" models that leave a lot to be desired in their resemblence to the actual thing...

The model industry in the Philippines is, for the most part, truly a cottage industry carried out in houses and small buildings in the back yards.

The quality of workmanship is truly amazing, but 100% dependant on really good information. If you order a "blue and white Piper" you get what you deserve. If, on the other hand provide quality drawings, several general pictures of the specific plane you want a model of and as many close-up detail pictures as you can, you will get a very detailed model of the subject airplane.

The main problem is detail quality control. Most of the retailers do NOT have knowledgable people inspecting things in the Philippines. When the model gets to the retailer, they no longer have the pictures/drawings you supplied. When you get your Cherokee model everything is perfect except that inexplicably they used a large sized lower case "m" in the registration instead of "M" or the emergency exit arrows on the wings of the airliner model you ordered for the retiring Captain point in the wrong direction. Who do you complain too now?? At the prices paid for "special order" models, they should be 100% right!

Oh, by the way, more than half the cost of a model today is shipping!

Well the ones I have seen on e-bay are clearly marked as Philippines manufactured
