Just came across this - I believe that Henry Allingham is the last surviving founder member of the RAF.

An inspiring little story I thought.

A bit of light reading regarding this grand old man:

May his engine start every day, may all his take off's be planned and his landings careful.

If I only experience 1/10 of what Henry has, I would have a busy life.

Have another whisky Henry.:ok:

Loved his recipe for life

In the past he has put the key to his old age down to "cigarettes, whisky and wild, wild women".

Sounds like female liberation happened long before the '60's. Unless he was a late starter, which I doubt. Bless him, I hope he has many more.

Still going strong

Henry has now reached another age milestone:

111 years, 11 months and 11 days.

He has joked that the secret to his longevity is "cigarettes, whisky and wild women".
A large glass of whisky is downed in your honour Henry. :ok:

Henry

2 questions:

1. Why didn't the Queen find time to visit him personally?

2. If I follow his fitness regime can I expect similar results?

What a top man, wish I could have the pleasure of meeting him.
He was too old to serve in WWII!!!!!!!!

Best wishes to Henry,

Cheers

I had the good fortune to meet him and speak to him when he visited RAF Cranwell last year. He recounted some of his experiences from WW1, plus other events in his life.
He has a wicked (and slightly non-PC!) sense of humour. He's a bit hard of hearing but, other than that, appeared to be in fine fettle.
An inspiration to us all.

Congrats.

Congratulations to Henry, a great man, --- it's hard to believe that in 20yrs - 3 months - & eleven days that I will 'possibly' reach that grand age. !!!!
