Golden Centennaires Canadair Tutor
 

Hi. I am trying to find out the paint spec for the Canadair Tutors flown by the Golden Centennaires in Canada in about 1967. I know that the aircraft were painted in light metallic gold on the upper surfaces, and a navy blue on the undersides: but does anyone have the actual spec of the paint? I would also be grateful for any photos of this team. I hope to build a scale model which is why I am looking for this. Thanks in advance for any info. Does anyone know if the airbrakes were selected out for all landings as per Lightning?

Presume you're going to use the Arrow Graphics decal sheet D-33-72 for this? The instructions describe the underside as 'dark blue', but when I first saw photos of these, I thought it was 'black', so it must be VERY dark blue! Also, you need to see the book " A Tradition of Excellence" by Dan Dempsey, which is a tome devoted to the history of Canadian aerobatic teams. There are lots of photos of the "Golden Centennaires" in it, but none showing them in landing configuration, so cannot answer your 'air brake question'.

Checked with our Chief Pilot (ex-Cold Lake) and he said air brakes out every time after touchdown - part of SOP.

Thankyou for the replies. I am trying to get a copy of the book, but so far Amazon have taken 2 months and are not sure if they can deliver it. The colours that I have so far are Sheffield Pale Gold (similar to the Labatts beer cans) a blue slightly darker than Humbrol dark blue, and roundel red for the cheat line. There is a video clip on the Snowbirds site that shows a formation approach, and all have their airbrakes out - so I will include a working system on my model. I am looking for any photos especially to see if there was any markings on the aircraft i.e HOT EXHAUST or bang seat triangles etc. As far as I can see from the photos I have there were no markings, and this has been confirmed by other sources

Here are some more photos from my archives. As an aerobatic teams' historian, I have extensive files on all teams. Here is aircraft '151' with its air brakes extended and a close-up of the nose, showing it has the pilot's name under the cockpit. Can't find any evidence of stencils or warning insignia however.
