Burtonwood

Hello there, does anyone know of pictures of RAF Burtonwood? I'm paticularly looking for pics of v-bomber deployment or after it closed before being demolished.

This is not for a project or anything, just curiosity.

Thanks for your time

Airfield Publications produced a book on Burtonwood in 1985 which has a little on the V-bomber dispersals but alas no photos of the bombers in situ..

You could try Warrington Library / Cheshire County Archives

I have some pre demolish photos but it will take a little while to kickstart my scanner. Google Penketh or Sankey and you should come across some air 2 ground that I took a few years ago.

I think it makes reference to the Bomber deployment

I live fairly close by but I can only recollect tales from Burtonwood my mum used to tell me - it was the place to go on a Saturday night. My contacts haven't been so glamorous - just taking Flight Plans from all the UH2 / Kingair crews that used to come into our Flight Briefing Office at Liverpool daily during the 80s when they were commuting between Burtonwood and Manheim / Ramsteim. Still ended up with many penfriends, so that was OK.

When you drive past it on the M62 the air is just full of history and memories.

Anyway hope the links give you some useful info.

No pictures but my Dad worked for the Yanks at Burtonwood and I went to several open days and was a frequent visitor to the field. Watched the vulcans many times - great.

Right click on the photo for the website where some air to ground photos of the Burtonwood area can be found. Here is the US Army warehouse.
