WWII color gun camera footage

I found this over on ARRSE:

I haven't seen it before and I don't know where it came from.

Fascinating stuff - but how come 'allied aircraft' appear to be knocking seven bells out of RAF roundels?

Really? I didn't catch that...unless it's more example of "blue on blue" :E

I looked again...

I see what you mean about the air to air scenes...especially at the beginning.

The P47's and the air to ground (which, I assume are from the P47's -- but you can't really be certain) scenes seem ok.

I had a look in the comments. Someone says that this is an excerpt from this:

('scuse me while I get the link)...ok, got it:

Sorry, that's an advert.

Much of this footage comes from the feature film Fighter Squadron made soon after the war.

I've seen most of it in a documentary on UK history I think. The documentary follows a P47 Unit towards the end of the war, I think it was for March/ April 1945.

Some good footage though.

I assume that the fact that some of it is in colour means that it isn't British.

The code "E4", visible in the formation shots, was used by the P-47s of the 377 Fighter Squadron 9th Air Force
