Shuttleworth Collection 4th June 2006 - Military Pageant

First the Great War contingent. A memorable Sopwith Triplane performance and plenty of head-on passes contributed to a very spirited start to the show.

We then had the part of the display that the crowd had assembled for. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to assembling this formation. It's not all that long since the idea was being discussed over coffee during Training Week and it was wonderful to see these plans come to fruition.

Whilst the visiting acts were spectacular, I've got to say that Keith Dennison's solo display in the Sea Hurricane topped this section of the show for me. Keith's command of the energy of the Sea Hurricane just gets better and better as the season progresses and each manoeuvre flows perfectly into the next.

It was a day for formations both planned and unplanned....

And then another highpoint of the year, PA474 arrived to perform the best Lancaster display I've ever seen. This was a day when everyone ran out of superlatives. Thanks to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, this display went way beyond expectations. It's been quite a few years since I last saw PA474 at Old Warden, I hope it's not so long until the next visit.

This was the first visit for Peter Teichman's P40 and it certainly looked good in Old Warden's natural ampitheatre

The show was rounded off with the Edwardians. Unfortunately the Blackburn threw a plug lead and didn't take part, but the Boxkite, Triplane and Bleriot certainly delighted a satisfied crowd.

To sum up, this was a splendid show, made possible by the efforts of the Pilots, Staff and Volunteers of the Shuttleworth Collection and by the RNHF, BBMF, Kennet Aviation, Peter Teichman and other visitors. Thanks to everyone for providing an excellent day out and some lasting memories. See you all at the next show on Saturday 17th June.

Superb pictures, Rob, as always. I'm actually able to attend the display on the 17th; it will be a chance to give my new camera a good thrashing. I'm not expecting miracles though, I'm still learning how to drive the thing! :ugh:

Well the long-term forecast for Saturday looks good, so fingers crossed that the weather gods keep smiling on Old Warden.

Good luck with your new camera, Simtech, I can't think of a better place to play with it.
