Operation Musketeer (Suez)

Hi

This forum has produced magic previously, hope it can again. :)

Doing a bit of research and would like to know if anybody here has recollections of the Suez thing (Operation Musketter), especially the PR Canberras of 58 and 13 Sqns.

Only one Canberra was lost, WH799, shot down by a Syrian Mig-17 (or Meteor depending on which tale you believe). Of the three-man crew only one was killed, Fg Off Urqhart-Pullen. Pilot, Flt Lt Bernie Hunter and nav, Flt Lt Sam Small, (13 Sqn crew in a 58 Sqn Canberra), were captured and held in jail in Beiruit until repatriated.

Query . . .
Does any know if the pilot and/or nav are contactable these days? Anyone here in the 13 Sqn Association that could maybe ask around?

Much appreciate any and all efforts, thanks.

Hi

Might I suggest you take a look at the book "Wings over Suez" by Brian Cull all about flying ops during the Suez crisis indeed a very well researched book.

I also understand there is some form of 60th Anniversary Suez event at Biggin Hill on the weekend of 2 & 3 September, suggest you contact Biggin Hill Airport Management.

Thanks for that. Understand what you're saying about the book however, the campaign itself is not the issue. Issue is to find out the current whereabouts of the two 13 Sqn crew and if they are contactable or not.

Regarding Biggin's do, thanks for the gen.
