Soviet Il-2 Sturmoviks over Vietnam...

They have been running quite of bit of what I would call "yesterday's glory" on Vietnam TV of late. On one documentary about the "American war" some footage of a Soviet Il-2 Sturmovik was shown straffing supposedly U.S. and/or South Viet positions.

This is a new one on me. I was on the ground here with the Marines in 1968 and have read quite a bit about the war. I never heard of the Sturmovik being in the inventory of "charlie' angels" as I think of the North Viet air force.

I sense that an film editor from the History Channel may be on loan over here. (If you've ever noticed footage of the Korean War tossed into something like th Italian campaign of WWII, you know what I mean.) Someone in Studio B in Hanoi saw some footage of the Sturmovik hosing down the Germans at Kursk or where ever and thought it would look cool in a documentary about the Second Indochina War.

Any one out there know about the role of the Sturmovik post-WWII?
