Any ex-Armourers here?
I would like to know the relevence of the coloured bands painted on WWII bombs; the 4000lb cookie in particular.
I visited East Kirkbys Lancaster this morning and an example of a 4000lb "Cookie" bomb had a red and a turquoise ring around the full circumferance. Anyone able to through any light on this one? |
coloured bands are usually an indicator of the type of filling.
if it had red crosses on it it usually meant as far as I remember that it ws explosive fit for use in tropical climes. white for phosphorus yellow for torpex red for RDX purple for rdx / ????mix light blue for drill purpose |
