Which Aerodrome Mk IV
Gooney!!!!
However, that doesn't narrow the search very much!
Masked booby range:
Compared to the ranges of gooney (either back footed albatross or Laysan albatross); the range of the masked booby comes closest.
However I think this range chart does not match the text of the wiki article.
This should definitely limit your search!!
By the way, this outcrop makes it that you are looking for an island instead of atoll

Are we in the Tuamotus?
lots of atolls there
lots of atolls there
UV has it with Clipperton Island.
Indeed French but also visited by Roosevelt who wanted is to become US.
Secretly occupied by the US Navy Seabees who prepared the landing strip. (And lost a Landing vessel)
I had found the chart with the landing strip indicated but no proof it was used until I found a story about a DC7B freighter N756Z used for lobster runs.
N756Z
Of course I also had this photo but that would have been too easy to identify:
OH called
edit:
the Wikipedia article on the masked booby mentiones Clipperton Island 3 times. But Clipperton is not covered in the range chart.

Are we still in the Pacific?
Certainly.
There is a river passing by the airfield. And tonight at the ISASI cocktail party I spoke with two folk who work in that vicinity - but are not fishermen or divers.
