Which Aerodrome Mk IV
No I42 - we're not in Grimble-land.............
And it certainly isn't Lanzarote! A LOT quieter.

I have wandered here - oddly enough in a helicopter

regular air services , once quite a busy area , now seemingly a bit of a backwater

Hostilities tend to have a deleterious effect on "regular air services" but they also make for an area being quite busy for a time and then falling into backwater status. Could that airfield and helicopter tarmac be somewhere near the eastern coast of the Adriatic?

I had a similar thought... It isn't the old Rijeka airport, is it? (The one on the mainland rather than the newer one on the island of Krk.)
A very long way from the Adriatic ho it is by the sea.... I'm travelling so can't cost another picture until late tomorrow.
we're definitely in the East - but not Japan either

Returned to the fold - try this picture...... occasionally a rather nasty cross-wind IIRC but not unusual in this neck of the woods. Nothing like madeira tho'...

start the clock...

It is indeed Fak-Fak. Rather a nice spot but not a great deal of activity
