CSA desperate 1968 SITA message.

The night of 20th August 1968 saw 200,000 Warsaw Pact troops
and 5000 tanks enter Prague to put down a Czechoslovakian
uprising seeking reforms under the Alexander Dubcek government.
A message sent by the workers of Czechoslovakian Airlines was
sent via the SITA aviation communication network to many Western
airlines, asking for assistance from their governments to help them.
The message was from PRG??OK, and sent to HAJ??BE TLV??LY
HNL??PA plus 3 or 4 other SITA addresses. The text included.
Tanks have entered our Country, Invasion powers have taken over
our Radio and Tv stations.. This SITA message was uploaded
possibly by a BEA S1-11 division staff member in HAJ.
Does anyone know where it can be located ??

If a copy still exists in the UK, they would probably have a copy at the BA Heritage Centre or they may know more about it. [The heritage centre is basically the archives of BA and the predecessor airlines which is located at Waterside] If you delve around on the BA website there is a contact email address. Be aware the centre has been closed for months now because of COVID [and is still closed] as the centre is manned by volunteer retired ex-BA staff. They do still answer emails though and may have some details.

Interesting SITA telex sent in 1968 from PRGXYOK. Is History repeating itself ? Sent 1968 to: FRAXYLH TLVXYLY HAVXYCU ADDXYET HELXYAY AMSXYKL REKXYFI The message was relayed to further SITA Addresses from these recipients and message reads. "To all trade union organisations of air companies. and to all workers of World air companies.
"Dear friends",

Employees of Czechoslovakian Airlines urgently request to foe immediate help our country stop Is occupied against the will of our people and legal government with enemy armies of Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, and the German Democratic Republic stop. Are being destroyed, even there are signs of lootings stop.
Please help us keep our freedom stop please inform your government and all your working people cma organisations for support for occupied Czechoslovakia stop.

Working people of Czechoslovakian airlines PRGXYOK. This was the start of the Prague Spring, Brezhnev's doctrine announced that the USSR would not allow any Eastern European country to reject communism, even if if meant a third world war. On the 20th. August 1968 500,000 Warsaw pact troops stormed in, taking over radio and TV channels. but not CSA's SITA link before the uninvited armies took hold.
