Bae 146 at Carlisle
On the 7th April 1987 I was the Captain of a Danair British Aerospace 146 which landed at Carlisle airport. The weather in Newcastle and our usual diversion, Teesside, was thick fog and our operations department asked us to operate into and out of Carlisle that day.
Any enthusiasts out there have a photograph which I could have?

I assume that you have seen these on the web; for info.

Newcastle ?
G-SCHH with RAF roundels, thats one for the logbook.
Also a vague recollection that this aircraft, in Dan Air colours, conducted waterslpash trials at Cranfield

Not relevant to the thread but I notice the pennants on the tailfins are quite different, something which used to happen quite a lot with Dan-Air. I wonder if it was by design or an unintentional consequence of using more than one paintshop? It was the same with BMA aircraft in the 70s and early 80s but I think their tailfins were all painted in-house by the same man!

Regarding your thoughts about the paintshop, I think Dan used several venues. I took an aircraft from Lasham to Southend to be repainted. Lasham was a large engineering base for us. Strange logic.

there was an interesting comment recently on either the BAC 1-11 face book page or the Dan air page from one of the engineers saying how Fred Newman b^llcked them for rushing the paint job and each aircraft looking different!

No luck either on an EGNC (Carlisle) search

If you were still there then I have a question . if I remember correctly once Braathens took over the Norway routes and Air UK the AMS route from NCL that only left LGW and that was changed to a 1-11 rather than the 2 based 146’s. So what happened to the based 146 crews??
on the charter side NCL was great for Dan Air in 91, 92 with 3 x 737-400’s (1 727-200 in 91) but scheduled was in the decline (perhaps even the based 748 had moved on by this point too) so always wondered....

Having checked my log book I didn't operate a NCL-LGW-NCL in March 1991 so it wasn't me!
The 146s and crews were moved to LGW. Again, having looked at my log book I was still operating the odd LGW in June 1992 and the odd NCL-MME-AMS-LGW and return during June. If memory serves me correctly the 1-11s became part of the operation to NCL as you mentioned. The 146s were heavily involved with Berne, Innsbruck and Chambery (winter) from Gatwick and we also spent quite a lot of time in Berlin.
Having finally sold our home in the North East and bought a new one in Sussex I was made redundant three weeks after my new mortgage started. 😠
Apart from that they were great days!

I’m probably heading off at a tangent here but surely this kind of event would have been a big deal for “Sleepy Hollow” international.
Have you tried the local paper to see if it was reported/photographed or contacted the tower to see if anybody has any photos? Sometimes people may know “old Jack* the controller from way back when.

I emailed the local paper (Times and Star) but the silence is deafening!
However, it may be worth trying ATC......I'll give them a ring. That name actually rings a bell!

Thanks, really interesting (except the consequences of Dan’s demise).
Sounds like it was a great company to work for (per facebook group). As a youngster used to mainly go on intasun holidays and therefore fly Dan air from NCL while living on the flight path saw their varied fleet at everyday - and that’s where my (strange) fascination started!
