It looks French or Italian to me. That clumsy air scoop below the cowling is very distinctive, as is what appears to be a nice clean bubble canopy.

Delete 'Firefly' insert 'Battle'
First flown 31 May 1939 with a Napier Sabre 1 engine.

Which prefectly explains the strange position of the exhaust and the almost symmetrical cowling lines...d'uh! oh!

I have to admit that sycamore gave me the idea when I googled the Folland f108 and came up with something called 'oldmachinepress.com' which included the full picture of the Battle.

chevvron, you are indeed correct. It was the Fairey Battle used as a Napier Sabre test bed.

Fields in the background look like NW Europe - possibly a river or the coast near the top of the pic?
