hi gentlemen, can anyone tell me the diameter of the derwent 5 inlet and the derwent 8, i really would like to get this correct, also looking for images of any RAF F8 Meteors, i have drained the interweb and all the books i have but coming up short, also where can i find detailed aircraft logs for squadrons ect. thank you in advance

here are two others that have been done as profiles, not mine, and decal sheets, cannot find images of the real aircraft, NOT renovated museum aircraft, must be period images, thank you

I cannot remember what Mark of Dewents they were the Meteors at Oakington in the early sixties had 'big' or 'normal' breathers.

The bottom of the two images is 64 Sqn, Duxford.
My Dad did two tours with them in the 50s- must check his log book for that one!

I was at Biggin Hill in the early 1950's and took this photo of one of 41 Sqn's Meteor F8's from the old control tower alongside the Westerham Road, probably 1954-1955. Shortly afterwards 41 converted to Hunter F.5's.

The two Martin-Baker Meteor T7 1/2(S)s have different diameter intakes although both are now flying with Derwent 9s. If these are representative of what you are after, I can get the measurements for you. Do you want the minimum inner diameter or that across the intake apex? PM me if you wish.

The ultimate in Meteor 'heavy breathers' must have been RA490 in its 'deflected jet' configuration.

Powered by twin Nene engines, it was flown at speeds as low as 70 KIAS in deflected state. I hate to think how it would have handled in the event of a single engine failure on the approach.....
