Hawker Typhoon
Clearing out the late father-in-law's stuff, I found this pic of a Hawker Typhoon, which looks to be serial number EJ880. Comparing the photo to others he had in an album I would say it was taken at Fassberg in 1952. Judging by the exhaust blacking on the fuselage it looks well used, but for what?

Aircraft is a Mark V Tempest. From the item carried under the port wing it seems to have been converted to a TT. 5 (high speed target tower), the item being a ML target winch. A drop tank was carried on the starboard wing. TT. 5 entered service in 1948 with the Armament Training Station (ATS) Sylt, but also served with the ATS Acklington, CGS and 226, 229 and 233 OCUs. Type was finally retired from 233 at Pembrey in July 1955. Beyond that can't help, sorry.

Corgi Tempest
Lke all the 80 production Tempest TT.5s, EJ880 was a conversion from a Tempest V built in 1944/45. EJ880 saw one month's service with 33 Sqn, between 25 January 45 and 25 February 45. During this period the squadron was converting from Spits to Tempests at Predannack but flew to B.77 Gilze-Rijen on 21 February to join 2ndTAF in Holland.
Four days later EJ880 5R-R, flown by Flt Lt Luckhoff, was involved in a combat in which he claimed 2 Bf109s destroyed but his Tempest was Cat B damaged. repair was not completed (by Hawker until late 1946 and the aircraft remained in storage until selected for TT.5 conversion as noted above.

Hawker Typhoon
Talking of Typhoons; the Jet Age Museum at Brockworth is restoring a Mk 1B Car Door cockpit section at the present time.
For my sins; I have been stitched up to make something presentable for exhibition with regard to the bits that the pilot had to play with; whilst the rest of the team resurrect the frame tubes.
So far the port and starboard panels are complete; and I'm playing with the throttle quadrant.... (and keeping an open mind about the instrument panel... we have a blind flying panel and not a lot more.)
Anyway; here are the before and after pics:
Starboard Electrical and Fuel Services Panel as a challenge...
