Twinkling in the Night
Canadian Fairey: Despite all its encumbrances, necessitated by its niche, I still find this aircraft particularly attractive, don't you? A handful to maintain in flying order, I wonder if she's tricky to fly safely?

I've always liked the aircraft and miss dear old WB271 on the circuit.
I thought I heard recently that an airworthy aircraft was on its way to the UK (Kennet Aviation?), plus there are several ex Swedish machines here which surely could be candidates to fly again.

Fairey Firefly AS.5 WB271

In 1966, members of 814 NAS spotted WB271 in open storage at Nowra. Upon realising its significance with their Unit and the value to the Fleet Air Arm Museum, the aircraft was bought for £160, paid for by the company of HMS Victorious. The aircraft was brought 'home' in 1967 and was presented to the Fleet Air Arm Museum, where it was placed on display. /Q
£160 That's less than I paid for my first car, a 1959 Frogeye!

We used to bomb the Blighters senseless: Now we pay them to fettle our Spits!

The one in Thailand ... complete with damage on the tops of the wings ... they knew it had folding wings, so they tried to fold them upwards (!) rather than backwards. Oops.
