Matt Hall is one of the finest pilots in the world as you’ll see when he pulls off an amazing recovery during a Red Bull Air Race. He needed all his skill and training as a pilot to survive what should have been a crash during the fourth stage of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship 2010 on qualifying day in Windsor.

An amazing recovery certainly, but surely the worlds greatest pilot wouldn't have made the cock and flown himself into the water...
What a load of bolleaux.
The fella made a mistake like anyone can in a race and was staggeringly lucky to get away with it. He may be the worlds best pilot, who knows, but this incident certainly didn't prove or indeed even suggest anything of the kind. Sorry.

What is it they used to say? Something like:
"A superior pilot is one who uses his superior judgement to avoid those situations which would require him to use his superior flying skills"
.... hmmmmm

A superior pilot is one who is able to use his superior skills to avoid situations which would otherwise require the use of those skills.

There are "Old Pilots" and there are "Bold Pilots" but there are no "Old Bold Pilots" flying like that he won't be around for much longer, extremely lucky to be alive.
If he is "so superior" he would know better than to put himself into a situation like that and lose control of an aircraft by stalling it at low altitude, but then to advertise such a cockup on the internet as being a hero, well,
Idiot springs to mind not superior

Very true!
This "superb" pilot flew the aeroplane into an accelerated stall close to the ground.
Professionals don't do that.
I have 1850 hours on this.....................

In awe, admiration and worship at your humility as such a paragon of a superior sky-god.
Just hold my head while I Puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuke.
Crabs! There's nothing else remotely like them on earth, is there? Thank Christ.

....err yes LM.....!
...OK, that's only Wiki, but there are many separate similar sources on t'internet.
But then (by an amazing coincidence) I have exactly the same number of Jaguar hours as Frank Borman ..... ie None! (but quite a few on other stuff)
Teeters (definitely NOT a bold pilot ......)
Frank Frederick Borman, II (born March 14, 1928) is a retired NASA astronaut and engineer, best remembered as the Commander of Apollo 8, the first mission to fly around the Moon, making him, along with fellow crew mates Jim Lovell and Bill Anders, the first of only 24 humans to do so. He was also the chief executive officer of Eastern Air Lines from 1975 to 1986. He is a recipient of the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
Quote from Borman: A superior pilot uses his superior judgment to avoid situations which require the use of his superior skill.

The only 'goosebumps' I get are there because people on PPrune are suggesting this man is a good pilot.
Was he the only one in the race that managed to recover from the 'hit the water' part of the race, or did the other competitors somehow manage to avoid the water altogether?
