Airlines no longer operating

Looking at all of the Airlines I have flown on, I noticed that the vast majority of them are no longer operating. Perhaps I'm a jinx on the aviation industry !! My list for anyone who is interested;

Air Ferry, BKS Air Transport, British Eagle, Trans Union, Channel Airways, Air Spain, British United Airways, all of whom have ceased ops. Monarch (still operating), Skyways Coach Air, BOAC (still operating as BA), Ansett, TAA (now part of Qantas), Pan-Am, American Airlines (still operating), Air New Zealand (still operating), BCAL, British Airways (still operating), MAS (still operating), Arkia (still operating), Air Bridge Carriers (now Air Contractors), Aer Mediterranean, Britannia (now Thomsons), Altair, Air Europe, Sunstate (now part of Qantas), Flight West, Majestic Airways, Garuda (still operating), Easyjet (still operating), Spanair (still operating), Onurair (still operating), Flybe (still operating), Manx2 (FLM Aviation & Vanair) (still operating).

So, a hefty percentage that I've flown on have ceased. Anyone else like to add their details just out of interest.

I think for many of us, naming all those we've flown on would just become a long boring list and end up as willy-waving contest.

A few I've flown on that no longer exist are :

Flitestar (ZA)
Nationwide (ZA)
Air Cape (ZA) (absorbed by SAA)
CAA (Rhodesia) (split into 3)
Air Rhodesia (became Air Zimbuggered)
EAA (Kenya) (split into 3)
BCAL (GB)
DanAir (GB)
Laker Airways (GB)
PanAm
TWA
PSA (US)
Allegheny (US)
UTA (FR)
CP Air (CA)
Sabena

Must be more I can't think of.

Then gave up and went into Flt Ops Support

Don't forget that the mere fact they're not operating is not in itself always a bad thing.

Ths loss of Dan and particularly B. Cal and Go is tragic and much to be lamented, the loss of grubby little operations like Debonair and one half (the Western half) of Virgin Express is probably of great benefit to aviation. Pan Am and TWA were landmarks in sadness at the demise of historic names though also in chronic mismanagement, yet there are also dreadful companies still surviving that have no right to.

C'est a vie.

In the entrance to the Airport Hilton* at Dorval (Montreal), there's a wall built of rocks each one from an airlines' home area & with the contributing airlines' name etched into the surface. With a couple of exceptions, I doubt any of the airlines are still flying including Allegheny, Mohawk, Braniff, Piedmont & Wardair.

*A check on Google still shows its distinctive circular construction in the overhead photo but a note says that the hotel may have closed.
