Which Aerodrome Mk III
My instructor friend was at Brize. Taking off one day in a Horsa towed by a Whitley, the Whitley lost an engine just after takeoff and flipped over, dragging the Horsa with it; they didn't have time to release. My friend had an artificial leg and a steel plate in his face as a consequence.

My Father hated being towed by the Whitley - if it lost a donk you were on your own. He reckoned the Albermarle to be worse though.
As an aside I knew Jo Lancaster (who died recently) - Jo was a Test Pilot for AW after the war and reckoned they never made a halfway decent aircraft!

Cannot link the Hethel replies. How about Kemble for this? Took a Lotus chairman to Hethel many years ago, I think 'mates rates' in the Compton Abbas Aztec. Decent lunch, interesting Vauxhall Carlton testing.
