Which Aerodrome Mk III
It's Europe alright ...... quite a destination - the airfield has been there since the 1930's but I'm damned if I can find any early pictures ... - here's another one
No we're not in Latvia nor Scandinavia - you need to be further west I think.
This is a major, well known destination with a nautical connection - tho it is not on the sea........

Is that runway part of the road that appears to be disappearing over the horizon further away? If so, I think the Swiss adapted some roads to be used as dispersal fighter bases. Can't think what the nautical connection could be, though...
It's a bit closer to the sea than either Luxembourg or Switzerland - its the place rather than the airport that has a nautical connection. Tourism is big here
Sorry Dook I missed your question- "Is/was it used by a navy ?" - it was built by some rich enthusiasts, taken over by the military for a while but for many years has been civvie only I believe
I don't believe that any specific naval air units ever used it but I may be wrong - it's hard to discover much about the detail of this place pre mid-50's......... and old photographs are quite scarce
Queries tend to be swamped by Google pages on the nearby city it serves.

No I'm afraid not - this place is well connected with established routes to well over 30 other major European cities - but not all the connections are via the airport
perhaps more useful

I'm thinking Billund. Nowhere near the sea; a lot of tourism for Legoland; nautical connection as in the Battle of Jutland. But of course this airfield isn't in Scandinavia. Hmmmm.
And from Google Earth I cannot see a straight fence with trees behind.
So I think I can keep searching.
Milan Malpensa?
Not in Scandinavia,
West of Latvia and Lithuania
Straight fence with trees,
Multiple Aerodromes around touristic city?
But probably not enough hills?
