olympus. A very interesting challenge. I am most interested in the four Auster aircraft reported to belong to 658 (AOP) Sqn RAF. There is some history covering 658 (AOP) Sqn time in the Netherlands here:-
658 AOP Squadron but I was not able to locate a great deal else after Nov 1944. Does your reference only give their title in repect of that photograph. Would also be interested to learn more about all those Ju52s?? on the pan as I understand that Kiel Holtenau served primarily as a SAR base in World War II, and suffered from heavy allied air attacks. There does not appear to be much evidence of damage to the hangars or the pan.

My source for the picture was 'The Army in the Air - The History of the Army Air Corps' by Sir A Farrar-Hockley which in turn credits the Museum of Army Flying.
The text of the book makes no specific reference to the surrender of Kiel airfield. Indeed the activities of the AAC in Europe in 1945 are covered in very general terms in just one page.

olympus. Many thanks for that. This will teach me to look at my own sources before searching the web. As I have that book on my bookshelves. But as you say the amount of information contained in it regarding the AOP squadron in Europe is very limited hence the reason I did not consider it. However, I think you would agree it is surprising that as Kiel was bombed so heavily there appears to be little evidence of damage to the airfield. I am also curious as to why there are so many Ju52s (which I believe they are) parked on the dispersal.
Time for a clue or 2 ? West of Bob Hope. A taxy-way goes all the way to the hospital - the big multi-block building on the edge of the field top right of pic, against the "forest" line.
