Here is a read only link to the Aerodrome Database - WhichAerodrome.xlsx. Up to date as of 1/5/2019. Catching up slowly - up to May 2019 now (Mar 2020).

Here are some "rules" for Which Aerodrome. These are based upon the original suggestions from the very first thread, and have a few additions. Also please be patient as when you are active others may be asleep.
  • A historic picture of an aerodrome will be posted. Newer pictures are allowed but the theme here is to compare/contrast old with new as well as identifying aerodromes which no longer exist.
  • The person who correctly identifies it will be declared the 'winner' by the original poster.
  • That winner shall either post another challenge or declare the floor open. Anyone may then post the next challenge.
  • If the winner of the challenge does not respond to the notification of their success within 48 hours, an Open house can be declared when there is consensus between multiple other posters which are on line.
  • When the poster of a challenge does not respond within 48 hours of a posted answer, this poster can be declared winner if the answer is considered correct in a consensus of multiple other posters.
  • If Open House is declared, regular posters should not jump in immediately, but time should be given for those who are not great at naming the correct location as they may have some good images.
  • There will only be one challenge running at a time.
  • Try to use elderly photos and not Google Earth, Zoom Earth or any other search engine, pics
  • Try to post images that are not already present on internet, as Google Image Search will find them if they are.
  • Personal photos are acceptable as they show the aerodrome as it is now.
  • When confirming the correct location, the location and winner should be stated to negate any deletion of posts.
  • Please don't delete your posts, let everyone see your successes, failures and challenges.
Anyone can edit it so long as they have been here for 90 days with 90 posts. Let's get consensus before changing and not go crazy Thanks to Self Loading Bear for suggesting that we use a wiki. Which Aerodrome I Which Aerodrome II nvubu.

Not perhaps, definitely. Moonrakers RAFGSA camp 1963, sleeping and cooking in the old control tower.

TheChitterneFlyer has the con.

Definately Keevil. I go there every week and the tower still stands. Left to right OLY 419 RAFGSA 86, Grunau Baby, OLY 2B RAFGSA 253 and T.21 either RAFGSA 236 or 282.

Strictly speaking, Al, the 419 is GSA 249 (I think, I'll have a look when I get home), but BGA Comp no. 86. One in which I spent several happy hours. I last saw it on top of the Mynd, still in the trailer we built at Yatesbury in 1964. The Oly 2 is comp. no. 134, in which I flew my first competition, and adopted the competition number when I became a private owner.

You are correct Comp No 86 was indeed RAFGSA 249, I was just being lazy! Oly 2 Comp No 134 is RAFGSA 253.

We have plenty of images of aerodromes from the air and terminals from the outside. Here is an image from inside a terminal ... with at least a taxiway and part of a runway visible. This aerodrome has been used once before. It should be easy.

Correct country, wrong side. This a much-larger terminal.

Edited to add: This airport has more runways, and many more gates and passengers than KSJC.

I want to say Chicago. I've certainly been there but then again, I've been to quite a few in USA

Nowhere near as large as KORD. Try farther east.

Edited to add: This aerodrome has very little international traffic, which uses a nearby airport. The two airports have about the same number of passengers per year.

Very good, Cows. This is a small portion of the Southwest Airlines area of KBWI, Baltimore/Washington. WN (including Airtran) has over 25 gates at the airport and over 50% of the passengers. Together they have about 214 departures per day.

Thanks, I knew I would get there. In hindsight it was unlikely to be Chicago as I don't think Southwest have a hub there.

Anyway, lacking any originality, Open House.

Southwest does not have a "hub" anywhere. They call them "focus" cities. Just the name is different. Chicago Midway is one of Southwests major "focus" cities. Baltimore is another. Many flights in the east stop at Baltimore on their way to an ultimate destination.

I have traveled KBWI to and from Hollywood / Ft Lauderdale in the past year. WN272 which I used returning KFLL to KBWI a couple of weeks ago routes:

KFLL-KBWI
KBWI-KSTL
KSTL-KTPA

Ft Lauderdale to Tampa via Baltimore and St Louis. The "focus" at KBWI is great for me since I live near BWI and I can get non-stops to 30 or 40 cities on WN.

Cows has declared Open House.

This airfield has been done before but I liked the nostalgia of the photo... an easy one!
