Here is a read only link to the Aerodrome Database - WhichAerodrome.xlsx. Up to date as of 1/5/2019. Catching up slowly - up to May 2019 now (Mar 2020).

Here are some "rules" for Which Aerodrome. These are based upon the original suggestions from the very first thread, and have a few additions. Also please be patient as when you are active others may be asleep.
  • A historic picture of an aerodrome will be posted. Newer pictures are allowed but the theme here is to compare/contrast old with new as well as identifying aerodromes which no longer exist.
  • The person who correctly identifies it will be declared the 'winner' by the original poster.
  • That winner shall either post another challenge or declare the floor open. Anyone may then post the next challenge.
  • If the winner of the challenge does not respond to the notification of their success within 48 hours, an Open house can be declared when there is consensus between multiple other posters which are on line.
  • When the poster of a challenge does not respond within 48 hours of a posted answer, this poster can be declared winner if the answer is considered correct in a consensus of multiple other posters.
  • If Open House is declared, regular posters should not jump in immediately, but time should be given for those who are not great at naming the correct location as they may have some good images.
  • There will only be one challenge running at a time.
  • Try to use elderly photos and not Google Earth, Zoom Earth or any other search engine, pics
  • Try to post images that are not already present on internet, as Google Image Search will find them if they are.
  • Personal photos are acceptable as they show the aerodrome as it is now.
  • When confirming the correct location, the location and winner should be stated to negate any deletion of posts.
  • Please don't delete your posts, let everyone see your successes, failures and challenges.
Anyone can edit it so long as they have been here for 90 days with 90 posts. Let's get consensus before changing and not go crazy Thanks to Self Loading Bear for suggesting that we use a wiki. Which Aerodrome I Which Aerodrome II nvubu.

Sorry to butt in chaps, however you may have the necessary expertise to help solve a puzzle.
This thread on WW2Talk has photos of a Polish Air Force funeral, we're told.
Unidentified Polish Air Force funeral | WW2Talk
Does anyone recognise the hangars in WW2? (OK, before most of you were born, but you do seem ble to answer many posers)
First suggestions were Waddington, but that's no longer certain.
The church may be a help, as presumably it's not far from a WW2 aerodrome with significant Polish presence.
It's obviously late autumn to early spring, but one of the Polish ground crew had these photos when he died, but he didn't get to the UK till mid 1942.
So it's winter 1942 onwards, hangars, lorry, any other clues you sharp eyed guys can winkle out, that may help?

The churchyard has 2 headstones but so far not able to discern the names which might at least answer where the church is, and thus the airfield and narrow down who is/are being buried.

Thanks in advance, all assistance appreciated.
How long will it take? How many guesses? 10; 20; 50?
There are a lot of Polish reburials in Newark, it's not there from what I can see, so it's over to you to see if you can do better

I've spent an hour and a half on it and only drawn blanks.

Sorry.

I can't help with the funeral, but I recognise Dook's photo as Darley Moor near Ashbourne Derbyshire. I watched the bike racing there back in the 80's and used to go trials riding nearby.

I believe the microlighters still fly there.

I don't think we've done this place. Been in use for over 100 years. Military with civil use at weekends.

Some thoughts, you don’t have to answer them all
But it might ring a bell by fellow searchers.

I have no time nor lead to start searching.

Although you can find birch trees all over Europe.
This has a bit of Nothern Europe look.
German or perhaps Sweden?
Am I at least on the right continent?

Military use on a grass strip with civil weekend use?
Which country has that kind of bases?
Fairly big number of GA planes.
So an ?yearly? Fly-in event known by much pilots?

Those 2 “Piramid” shaped buildings in the back in the middle.
Are those agricultural storage sheds?

Yes to Northern Europe and there is an event going on.
The military 'land' there though they don't take off from there as far as I know.

I've looked at Belgium and Germany but can't find anything, but it might be one of those.

Maybe you should look a bit harder!

The high ground in the distance beyond the runway is a former coal mine spoil heap.
The civilian flying club is actually based outside the field and has to taxy across the main road to get there!
