Which Aerodrome Mk III
Thanks nvubu,
With that kind of terrain, I figured it had to be in the Vietnamese Highlands and given the size of the base, somewhere near the DMZ. So I started at Kon Tum and looked around.
I'll need some time to find a new challenge so in the meantime, Open House.

The smoke and date clues leads to some interesting history. I expect the photos were taken on the next morning.
From https://infogalactic.com/info/%C4%90...3%B4_Base_Camp
Smoke is from two burning aircraft.
The base would see extensive activity throughout the second half of 1967, culminating in the Battle of Dak To in November 1967. On the night of 15 November, North Vietnamese mortar fire hit two C-130 transport aircraft (#62-1865 and #63-7827) destroying them and setting off secondary explosions and fires in the ammunition dump and fuel storage areas

OK then. Here is one off the beaten track that I don't think many of you will have visited.
it's getting harder all the time TBH - people on here have been EVERYWHERE
The happily-named Wau comes to mind (AIP quote "land uphill; take-off downhill; park across gradient") but I don't think it's high enough. Must have a rummage in my files.

Yes. Keglsugl on the side of Mt. Wilhelm it is.
It has changed a lot over the years. The original photo was taken in the '60s so I gues you remember it later more like this:
I like the windsock aligned with the runway - it definately was a one way strip!
There is a story on the 'PNG Ples Bilong Tok Tok ' thead about someone who had his single engine fail on takeoff here, so just fell into the valley and glided down to land safely at a lower airstrip
Wantok chimbu warrior has control.
