Remembering what you said about the overflying aircraft being a clue...what about Blackpool (Squires Gate)?

A Cutty Sark visited the Renfrew Air Pageant in 1938. Is that it?

Goudie has it

Hatfield it is on the occasion of first display to be held by the Royal Air Force Reserve Flying Club.

The aircraft flying by is G-ACDP the Saro Cutty Sark of A.S.T. (Air Service Training) from Hamble. This aircraft remained in service used by No 3 E & RFTS until 1942.

not the prettiest of aircraft IMHO.

The First Flight of SARO "Cutty Sark" can be found here:

YouTube - SARO Cutty Sark first flight

The John Williams clue is that he wrote the music for Spielberg's film "Saving Private Ryan" ("Hymn to the Fallen") and Hatfield featured in the film because it was where the ruins of the fictional French town of Ramelle were created and used as location shots for the film.

Over to you Goudie

It was the John Williams clue that helped. Taken in '59, not a military airfield

Davidsoffice, you've mentioned everything but the name of the airfield but you're absolutely right it was a great show with all the aircraft you mention. I was a young cpl/tech on 617 sqdn at the time and took this pic seconds before the Skyblazers came screaming over. No prizes though for which aircraft stole the show.

PS. How do you know all that?
Ah! just found the website with all the info. Seems it was Sept. '58 not '59

Put XH483, vulcan, draken into google and you get a report of the show. Unfortunately in German but there are more photos of Basel.

I looked up XH 483 on google and found a rather sad pic of her at Manston, being used for fire practice!

Over to you Davidsoffice.

Isn't Google wonderful. I used to spend hours in the library or looking through the books I had but now a couple of key strokes and you get the information. Anyway, another I have scanned....

It looks familiar but i can't put my finger on it now..... I'll stab at Glasgow to kick off!

Ah, those Capitol '8s! Great, and a staple for us teenage spotters at LGW in the early '70's...
