Guess its Clue time. It is not in the UK. The Solent was almost certainly on the Africa run. The buildings and dock shown were opened by the relevant British ambassador in May 1949 to replace more basic facilities and shut down with the end of flying boat ops in November 1950 .

Thanks one11, it was your clue that did it. Here is a nice easy one which I am sure will need no clues as they are already there in the photograph.

Ref EKVG Faroes
If anyone's interested, re post from mid-June, the original WW2 watch tower at Vagar has been restored by locals, and the amphib slip-way is still there.
Hot 'n sunny by the looks; jet blast deflectors as per a civil airport; Victor tanker taken from what looks like a Comet; as a guess I'd go for Nicosia c1966.

Hot 'n sunny it was and it was also a civil airport; Victor tanker but not taken from a Comet. It was a few years later than 1966 but not at Nicosia.

Chevvron has it, it is indeed Dakar . I took the photograph from an RAF VC10 on route to Ascension in 1985, we had landed for a refuel. The VC10 was parked someway from the terminal and all on board had to leave the aircraft during the refuel and stand by a very smelly monsoon ditch whilst the aircraft was refuelled.
