Could be Windhoek (the big one 46k out from city), but that's 26/08 if I remember ?

Runway is 30m wide and 1800m long and not generally active-was used by Japan Aerospace in 2003 for testing unmaned aerial vehicles (UEVs)

Even with the clue and the name of the island it took me quite a while to find it!

Firstly, I was looking at the wrong Christmas Island (south of Jakarta), but then discovered Kiritimati/Christmas Island in the Pacific.

Apologies to all - Sycamore has corrected me - Kiritmati (Xmas Island) is not southern hemisphere - it is loacted at 1.5deg N.

Think it might be Swan Island Airport, Portland, Oregon, USA in about 1935.

Tacklebury is spot on Located by the Willamette River, the airport closed around 1940, and serves as a ship yard. Aviation did return to Swan Island in the 1960s, when Columbia Helicopters established a base there. The current Portland International Airport is on the shore of the Columbia River. You have control.
