Shobdon Swallow

Does anybody know what happened to the Red (rather dusty) BA Swallow G AFGD long time resident at Shobdon ?

I saw it circa 2002, is it still about ? I own Swallow GAFCL and was interested as to what happened to it. Any ideas.....

Last known owner seems to be a gentleman in the Cardiff area.

The G-INFO listing is a bit of a muddle - five separate owners appear, two of whom are deceased, one of whom is Bertram Arden, well known for a treasure-filled barn at Heavitree, Exeter in the 60s/70s.

I remember my father remarking about the barn as we drove through Exeter on the A30 around 1971.

Presume the old dear still exists and is perhaps enjoying some restorative care.

That's a lovely looking aeroplane you have there 369 - is it still that lovely shade of yellow?

Regards

We really shoud get a list together of all the B A Swallows and Klemm l25s in existance and put together a data file so that restorers or interested parties can contribute to it.
I have klemm l25 VH-UUR and hope to be able to bring it to Oshkosh some day.

Scion.

I think Don Kendal owned a Klemm many years ago. Same aircraft?

Edit: Just Googled the registration. Your Klemm is ex the Catholic Mission at Alexishafen. I'm sure there is a photo of that aircraft pre war in one of the "Balus" books by Jim Sinclair.

G afgd

Thanks for the replies one and all. It all ties in with what I recall, especially the rather complex ownership issues. I spoke to one of the "owners" about six years ago needless to say i have since lost the number !

However if it was last sighted at Shobdon in 2006 where is it today ? If i were to swing by mid wales this easter would i find a dusty space with a swallow shaped outline.........?

Yes my machine is the yellow one, a little dusty but now running and on its way to seeing daylight under its wheels soon....

shobdon swallow

Hi, with regards to the swallow at Shobdon, my granddad was a part owner up untill 1999, when unfortunatly died, the plane was stored there for some years after but was untouched, i went to Shobdon approx 3 years ago and it was still there, and was informed by a man in the hangar, it was under going repairs for its air worthy certifcate. But i have since moved to Australia and would also like to know its current state/location.

On June 26th 2010 FGD was back at Shobdon on the occasion of their open day looking in much better condition than when it was in storage there . G-INFO has it as a case under consideration for restoration so no C.of.A yet.

swallow

my father was a part owner of the swallow in shobdon until he died in 1998
Went up there the other day after a good few years and was delighted to meet the new owners(who were good friends of my dad and his friends who owned it before their deaths) was wonderful to see the old girl again, having been loved and looked after again. felt very emotional but know she is in good hands again.

Hi my dad built this from scrap during my childhood.

All former members of the group are now passed and ownership has now changed hands.

It has been at Shobon (Hereforshire) for years. I think there have been repairs going on for a few years.

Hopefully if it is ever airworthy then I'd like to go up in it
